FLB League: Moutahed stun Sagesse with third quarter uprising

BEIRUT, Lebanon (FLB Division A League): Former Final Four finishers Moutahed brought a lot of Sunday cheers to their home supporters at Tripoli producing a stunning 88-80 result against fancied Sagesse in Final Eight action in the 2012-13 Lebanese Division A League.

Sagesse seemed to hold the edge in the even-keeled encounter for a better part of three quarters of the game till Moutahed tilted the scales in their favor closing the third period with a 16-7 run.

Marc Salyers led Moutahed’s charge, which left them sharing the No 3 spot with defending champions Champville, with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Fellow American Eric Chatfield had 25 points and 5 rebounds.

Bassel Bawji added 10 points and pulled down half as many rebounds as seasoned point guard Rony Fahed pulled down 5 rebounds and dished out as many assists to go with his 9 points.

Deshawn Sims’ 33 points with 9 rebounds led Sagesse, who seemed to struggle with their shooting returning merely 35% in field attempts.

Aaron Harper, who according to reports in Lebanese media will be replaced very soon, had 25 points. Julian Khazzouh missed his third successive double-double by two rebounds scoring 10 points.
